The Hometap Advocate Program

Home equity investments are still a fairly new option, and the regulation and perception of them have real consequences for homeowners across the country.

As a Hometap homeowner, you’re uniquely positioned to help influence that by volunteering to become an Advocate who helps ensure that the HEI conversation is grounded in real stories — not just industry talking points.

What’s an Advocate?

A Hometap Advocate is a homeowner who wants to amplify their voice and share their experience in order to shape how home equity investments are regulated, covered in the media, and understood by fellow homeowners.

When a new HEI bill is introduced, a journalist files a story, or a homeowner asks “does this actually work?”— our Advocates can answer in their own words.

FAQs

Both Hometap’s Ambassador and Advocate Programs are designed to spread awareness about — and knowledge of — home equity investments through homeowner voices. However, the Advocate Program is primarily designed to make an impact on the regulation, growth, and perception of HEIs in the media and industry at large, while the Ambassador Program focuses on educating fellow homeowners who may be considering an Investment.

Our Advocates are required to have received a home equity investment from Hometap. Beyond that, we look for homeowners who can speak accurately and confidently about the investment process and how our financial solution works, and are open to sharing how and why they chose Hometap’s HEI to achieve their goals. We’ve often found that those with professional backgrounds in finance or real estate tend to be strong fits, given their knowledge.

Unlike the Ambassador Program, which has a contract attached, the Advocate Program is completely voluntary, there’s no obligation to participate in every opportunity, and no set end date for participation. Opportunities vary more than the Ambassador Program in terms of frequency as well. If selected, we'll reach out to you when opportunities come up to speak with journalists or provide written or verbal testimony, which is typically only about two or three times per year. There’s no obligation to participate.

A Hometap HEI has a ten (10) year term, during which no monthly or recurring payments are required. Hometap records a lien against the property, in the form of a mortgage or deed of trust, to secure its interest. You may choose to settle the Investment at any time during the term without incurring any penalties by exercising an Owner Repurchase. If you do not settle the HEI by the expiration of the term, your Hometap HEI provider may exercise its right to acquire a percent ownership interest in the property and then work with you to sell the property. You may contact either Hometap entity at hello@hometap.com (for prospective or current applicants) or homeowners@hometap.com (for homeowners with an active HEI) for more information. Eligibility criteria are subject to change. For current criteria, please contact your Hometap HEI provider at (855) 223-3144 or visit www.hometap.com/faqs
